Professional Certificate in Instructional Design

The certification course addresses the core process, principles and practices of simply instructional design. The certificate focuses on the design of multimedia eLearning courses and is ideal for people who are currently working alongside digital learning professionals and are looking for a solid understanding in the fundamentals.

The diploma is designed for people who are looking to advance their career as a Digital Learning Professional or directly pivot from one career to the Digital Learning Design Industry. The diploma covers the end-to-end knowledge and skills you will need to design engaging and impactful digital learning experiences.

While a lot of our students progress from the Cert to the Diploma there is not requirement to complete the Cert first because the Diploma covers everything that is covered in the Cert but it goes more in depth.

The certification programme is delivered as a complete self-paced learning experience. The self-paced options allow you to start the Cert at any time and complete the course in your own time. It is recommended to complete the course over 6 –8 weeks with a recommended commitment of 3 hours per week including assessment. There is no scheduled learning activities and interventions. You can set your own timetable for the assessment. You will receive support from a learning mentor to guide you through the process. The learning experience also includes networking with your peers on a social learning platform and practical project work. There will be a live virtual classroom once a month for students going through the certification programme.

Not at all. The Professional Cert is designed to be beneficial for anyone who falls into one of these categories:

• You have no experience in eLearning design and are looking to start a career in Instructional Design.
• You have limited experience, either in instructional design or development, but no formal training or accreditation.
• You currently do a lot of eLearning development but feel you currently lack instructional design expertise.
• You will need to manage an eLearning project and want to know the key project steps and ‘speak the eLearning language’.

Yes, you’ll be getting hands-on experience with Articulate Storyline – one of the most commonly used eAuthoring tools on the market. We will also explore a wide range of additional eLearning tools, platforms, and software available to you. You will come away feeling familiar with key eLearning tools and what they’re used for.

The UK higher education system is internationally renowned for its excellent standards. Our courses are all credit-rated by Glasgow Caledonian University, a highly rated UK university. The Professional Certificate in Instructional Design is allocated 10 credits at Level 7 on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework. For your country, there will be an equivalent award in the relevant educational system.

To achieve your certification you will be assessed on your project. This a work-based project in which you’ll be applying your learnings on the course to design your own eLearning resource and develop a few prototype screens for it. Our tutors will give you all the support you need with your project as the course progresses.
